Nasci em 1970 em Brasília, a capital do Brasil, época em que o maior projeto urbanístico modernista do mundo tinha apenas 10 anos de vida. Tive a sorte de ter vivido uma infância muito boa e uma juventude melhor ainda. Tenho a consciência de que fui um privilegiado, pois sempre tive acesso à educação e cultura.

Agradeço aos meus pais, meus avós paternos e maternos e minha família. Ser jovem, nesta cidade também tão jovem, me inspirou e me encaminhou para o mundo do cinema, da música e das artes. Eu não escolhi este caminho, eu fui escolhido por este caminho.

Minha mãe, Lúcia, grande incentivadora, sempre me matriculou em escolas de arte. Meu primeiro LP, que ganhei no meu aniversário de 7 anos, foi ela quem me deu. Era do Elvis. Com 8 anos, Lúcia me levou no Cine Brasília para assistir “Help” dos Beatles. Qual a mãe que levava um menino para assistir a um festival de cinema do Expressionismo Alemão em 1983? A minha, com certeza. Também guardo a lembrança de ver meu pai improvisando em casa um quarto escuro para revelar fotos dos filhos. Esta certamente seria a minha primeira influência no mundo da fotografia.

Sempre escutamos música em casa. Beatles e MPB dominavam. Nos anos 80, mergulhei nas bandas brasilienses da época. Legião Urbana, Plebe Rude, Detrito Federal, Escola de Escândalo e tantas outras. Nos anos 90 não foi diferente, com o privilégio de ter meus amigos como protagonistas nas bandas.

Comecei a fotografar em 1989, no Canadá. Lá terminei o segundo grau e aprendi inglês. Descobri cedo a minha profissão e nunca mais parei de fotografar. Em 1991 entrei para o bacharelado em Artes Plásticas na Universidade de Brasília. Não cheguei a concluir o curso, mas creio que ganhei uma base bem sólida para o meu ofício. Anos mais tarde, em 2012, me formei em Comunicação Social, com habilitação em Cinema, uma paixão que sempre me acompanhou.

Este site traz um pouco de tudo que já fotografei desde que comecei. Aqui tem foto em negativo P&B, negativo cor, dispositivos coloridos e até negativos coloridos resultados de processos cruzados, tudo digitalizado em alguns scanners que se tinha na época. Também tem fotografia digital, feita com minha primeira câmera full frame, com meu primeiro celular com recurso fotográfico, até os equipamentos dos dias atuais.

Considero-me um fotógrafo com gosto eclético, tenho várias influências. Adoro o instante decisivo do mestre Cartier-Bresson, mas também as paisagens fantásticas de Ansel Adams, o jornalismo visceral de Robert Capa e o surrealismo criativo de Man Ray, a fotografia P&B e a colorida, a analógica e a digital.

O que me prende a esse universo da fotografia é a oportunidade de estar sempre aprendendo, evoluindo e lapidando meus trabalhos. O tempo vai passando, o equipamento mudando, e o olhar continua apurando.

I was born in 1970 in Brasilia, the capital of Brazil. At that time, it was the largest modernist urban project in the world; it was only 10 years old. Fortunately, I had a great childhood and an even better adolescence. I am aware I always had the privilege to access education and culture.

I am very grateful to my parents, grandparents and family. Being a young boy, in this also very young town, I was inspired and directed to the world of cinema, music and arts. I did not chose this path but this path chose me.

Lucia, my mother, was very supportive and always put me in art lessons. On my 7th birthday she gave me my first LP. It was an Elvis Presley record. When I turned 8 years old she took me to watch “Help” from The Beatles at the Cine Brasília theatre. What type of mother takes a boy to a German Expressionism film festival in 1983? My mother for sure. I also have the memory of my father improvising a darkroom in our house just to develop some photos of his kids. This is for sure my first influence into the world of photography.

We always heard lots of music at our house. Our favourites were The Beatles and Popular Brazilian Music. In the 80s, I got deep into the rock bands of Brasilia. Legião Urbana, Plebe Rude, Detrito Federal, Escola de Escândalos and many more. In the 90s it was no different, with the privilege to have my personal friends playing in those bands.

I started photographing in Canada in 1989. There, I finished high school and learned English. I discovered my profession very early and never ever quit taking pictures. In 1991, I began the Arts course at the University of Brasilia. I did not finish the course but I think I have got a very solid knowledge for my work. Years later, in 2012, I graduated in Cinema, another passion that always accompanied me.

This website brings a little bit of everything I photograph since I began. It contains photos in black and white negative film, color negative film, color positive film and even color negative film obtained from a cross processed method. And all the images were digitalized in a film scanner that I had on that time. There is also digital photography, done with my first full frame camera and with my first cell phone that had a camera until the equipment I use today.

I consider myself to be a photographer with a very eclectic taste and many influences. I appreciate the perfect timing in the master work of Cartier-Bresson, but I also appreciate the fantastic landscapes of the master work of Ansel Adams; the visceral journalism of Robert Capa and the creative surrealism of Man Ray. I love black and white photography but I also love color photography; analogic photography and digital photography.

What still keeps me in the universe of photography is the opportunity of continuous learning, developing and shaping my work. The time goes by, the equipment changes but the vision gets more and more accurate.
